Why is it so easy to start something and yet so difficult to finish it? I've been thinking of the many philosophical and psychological reasons for this but I haven't really answered the question yet. I'm sure there's something fundamental to human nature that lends the question in the first place since so many can understand my dilemma but I'm also sure that there's something in particular to my personality.
Let me give you an example: I have 4 unfinished knitting projects around my house right now. Since I've started knitting I've really noticed my reluctance to finish my projects. Usually, there's a deadline looming (like a birthday or holiday) that presses me on. But when I have no deadline -- I'm HUGE at procrastinating the finish. It's common among knitters. In those cases it's often because knitters like knitting and finishing isn't knitting it's blocking and sewing and such. But see -- I sew too -- so this shouldn't be a problem for me. And normally I'm into to instant gratification, so finishing, naturally would be a way to take a tiny piece of knitted mess and turn it into something great. I've never had trouble finishing a wedding cake but that's a pretty serious deadline. My Masters took me 3 years -- no hard deadline. My bathroom -- still not finished even though I started it months ago. Hmm.. I will puzzle over this for a little while. In fact, I'll continue to puzzle it while I procrastinate finishing a couple of those knitting projects and procrastinate working on my next cake. Altough, I think I'm starting to notice some trends.
On the other hand, I had no problem finishing 1/2 a slice of pizza, some fries, a smoked-meat sandwhich, and a deep-fried chocolate bar yesterday at the EX. I had a really great time. Ron, Mum, Mac, Jason, Rob and I went to the EX, saw the air show, rode a bunch of rides, ate a pile of really bad food, and drove eachother all crazy. I recommend it to anyone who's wants to avoid finishing any of their projects.

Ah. I'm so with you on this one. Sorry, I have a little insight as to why as you do. If you find out, let me know. Although probably, the reasons for procrastinating are as varied as the procrastinators.
Drove each other crazy. "What did I do to you" Think it was more Ron and Rob than me. Or are you trying to tell me something.
Guess we will have to have another painting/redecorating weekend soon.
Do you want to set the date or shall I. I'm good at nagying so I have been told more than once. Although I have also been told that it is a habit you have picked up too.
Mum
Can't have a painting weekend anytime soon. I have rehearsals out the wazoo. And no -- I wasn't trying to tell you anything, although the stroller talk was a little silly. And instead of asking "what did I do to you?" -- why not say "you didn't drive me crazy, darling, so _we_ didn't all drive eachother crazy". :)
