One Skein

One skein. Is it pronounced "sk-eye-n" or "skeen"? It's a word I've only read. One skein of yarn. One skein of yarn is what I bought today after having not such a really great day. It's what a ball of yarn would be before it had been wound into a ball. It's about 100 g of yarn which varies in length depending on the thickness of the strand. One skein of yarn was just the pick-me up I was looking for.

The day didn't start out too bad. I had a really good laugh when reading Yarn Harlot's blog (use my links to check it out if you'd like a laugh too) and was intrigued by the idea of her new book. After reading Lellean's friend Allison's blog I finally had proof of what I'd long suspected -- that the "Sue" that Lell's friend Allison keeps talking about is the "Sue" that I knew from undergrad who lives with Eric (who works with Rob) one floor below Caroline (who works with me). Then I read Caroline's bead catalog. So, a happy morning. Things got a little tricky around lunch. I had a chat with a friend that can only be described as "worriesome" and an afternoon that can only be described as "disappointing". Then I realized that I had more work to do than would fit into the day, so I had to bring some home! Yikes!

But, I did finish Jo's birthday present on the weekend and one of a pair of socks, while really trying not to finish anything at all. And since I had a disappointing day today AND since today is the beginning of what's looking like an incredibly busy Fall I thought: I DESERVE A PRESENT DAMMIT! So, I went to Kensington and bought steak and pudding and exactly one skein of this Lorna's Laces Yarn from Lettuce Knit.

I bought it so that I could make the lovely and infamous "One Skein Wonder" from Glampyre Knits.

So, now, just for fun I'll take some input. What do you think? Should I make it as is or with longer sleeves? Maybe elbow length? Although, longer sleeves would nullify it from being a "one skein" wonder, it'd likely be warmer. But if it's warmer, I might not get to wear it until it's cold. You guys think it over. I'll give it some more thought while I savour my steak and stirfy and pudding dinner.

Talk to you soon,
B.

Hey Bex!
I love your site. It's funny that we know so many of the same people but have never met. If you are curious about the One Skein Wonder with sleeves, Laura, who works at Lettuce Knit, made one and it looks great. She has some pictures of it posted on her blog www.cosmicpluto.com/blog and may have posted her mods too. If not, I'm sure she'll fill you in if you drop her a line or ask her at the LK sn'b.
