Pip, pip, and cheerio!

Yep, you guessed it - I'm making an enitrely lame reference to England. "Why, would I do such a thing?", you must be wondering. Well, it's because I'm trying to make my heating system feel more at home with us. That's right. You heard me. Our heating system is English.

After nearly losing it yesterday, I sort of pinned down my contractor. He came by to do some more work on the bathroom and I was able to talk to him about what had been happening (or not happening) with the heat since Saturday. After a bit of investigation, it was definite that during the renovation process about three of our heating panels were damaged. That's a big part of the problem, since we likely have only about 6 or so others in the house. It's hard to say really, what the total is because we don't really know much about the heating in our house. And sadly, we what did know was mostly misinformation from the sellers.

Ok, ok .. so that's the bad news. But the good news is this: we know a whole lot more today. For example, we know that the heating in our house is made by a company called ESWA. I know that the type of heating we have is flexible radiant ceiling heating. This type of heating has never exactly been popular in Ontario but it was available about 25 - 30 years ago as an alternative heating option. It's still used widely in England, Norway, and Germany. In fact, the German website has the best description of the system. The more I learn about it, the more that I think it's actually kind of a cool system.

No final decision yet on what our plan is for moving forward. Although, it looks likely that we'll be getting some more ESWA panels shipped to us from London. For now, we bought some more ceramic heaters and we've got the temperature up to 20C in most of the rooms.
