Our Trip

I've been waiting for the pictures from our trip before I wrote about it but I can't wait any longer. Man .. photo developing is slow. So, when I get the pictures, I'll let you know and post them.

Let's start by saying that camping was amazing. We had a fantastic time. Before we left though, I was a little bit worried. Rob has had a series of unfortunate camping events over the years. He could write a book. So I wanted to make this trip particularly good for him – at least in part because I really like camping and want him to like it too.

Well, things went our way. We had great weather. We packed enough food but not so much that our packs were heavy on our way back. It was a little slow getting out of the city on Thursday. And a little slow getting to our site. I think it's because we're still a little bit inexperienced. We got to our site by about 7:15 pm – just before dark. It got windy very quickly after we got to our site and cold. So that first night we just got our stuff organized, put up our tent, ate some dinner and then hid in our tent.

The next day and all the other days, we did a lot of relaxing. Since it was cold in the morning we'd get into our sleeping bags and cuddle up in the hammock and read or knit or talk or play sudoku. In the afternoon sometime we'd do our few “chores” -- clean the dishes, pump water, get firewood. Then more sitting in the hammock. :) Throughout the trip Rob would talk about what fun he would do “next time”. Which of course, made me pretty happy because there would be a “next time”.

On Thanksgiving we met up with some of our friends who were on the lake and had a FEAST. There was just so much food and cheer and great conversation. So, we had a good time there too. On our way back to our site from dinner (about midnight by this time) the lake was so calm and the sky so clear that we decided to take a little trip around the lake. We looked at the stars and talked for a while. So lovely.

The next day we packed up as quickly as we could and came back to the city. That took a little bit longer than I thought it would too. We're kind of slow packing and unpacking the canoe, the car, the bags. Kind of slow at the portage. Like I said before, I think it's just inexperience. We'll get the hang of it.

Can't wait 'till next time!

B.
