Friday Night Cocktails - Kid Version

Clare's been asking for pop with increasing frequency. The thing is, we mostly only ever have club soda around here. Though, she has tried ginger ale, Sprite, and Coke on various occasions. Still, we try to keep her sugar intake to a minimum. So, the other day, when she asked for a 'fizzy drink' I decided to make a homemade something that, while it contains sugar, is a little less sweet.

The whole idea is based on something I saw at Jet Fuel and basically tastes like Limonata.

To one glass, add the juice of two squeezed lemons or a couple of tablespoons of bottled lemon juice. Add to that the amount of sugar or honey that you feel comfortable with (I probably add about half a tablespoon) and then roughly a quarter to a third of a cup of hot water. Stir to dissolve the sugar. Pour this over a glass of ice (or shake in a martini shaker with ice) and then add enough club soda to get the right flavour.

Clare usually 'helps' by doing all of the stirring or shaking. She seems impressed with the whole 'show' of making it up. And if Clare could write this blog, she'd tell you that making this drink is great because it's just like 'Mummy and Daddy's drink'. She'd also insist that the correct number of ice cubes is 3 because that's how old she was on her birthday. And she prefers white sugar to honey.

Talk to you soon,

B.
