My Last Day

I wrote this up on my last day at my old job, Friday October 23rd. I'm just getting around to posting it now. I've been working at my new job since last Wednesday.

---------------------------------------
If you follow me on Facebook, you may already know that today is my last day with my current company. What a strange day of mixed emotions - sad to be leaving the colleagues who have been such great friends but excited to try something new.

I'd like to tell you the whole story with all the gory details, but you know, it's the Internet. And Dooce didn't coin 'dooced' for nothin'. Not that what I have to say is all that interesting, really, but I'll definitely tone it down some (aka, it's bound to be a boring story!)

In a nutshell, about two weeks ago the company I currently work for called an 'all-hands' meeting to update us on the current status of the business. We're a small company, about 10 employees. The news was dismal but with a hopeful and optimistic twist that perhaps things won't be so dismal in a couple of months. The bottom line though, was that the President offered to give us all excellent references if we needed them as we looked for new jobs.

As a happy happy coincidence (or divine intervention?), I had a job interview the very next day. I honestly wasn't at all sure how it went. I guess it went alright though because a week later I had a job offer!! A really really exciting job offer!! Last Friday I gave my notice and negotiated a bit with my boss so that I could start my new job next week. Lucky for me, the new position is downtown, (hooray no more driving in the car to work!) with a really exciting organization, doing exactly the kind of work I'd been looking to transition into. Yay!

I've been working for this company since I left grad school - almost but not quite 8 years ago. This is going to be some big change! I'm excited but also nervous to meet my new colleagues and learn more about my new role. I hope they like me there!

Talk to you soon,

B.

Honestly the hardest part for me with starting a new job is always the meeting new people, change of scenery aspect.

I hope things go well!
