She's been saying "Hi" (pronounced haai) for quite a while now, but I wasn't sure how to know whether it was really in her vocabulary. So far:
- She uses it at all the 'correct' times (to the baby in the mirror, to the cats in the morning or when they enter a room, sometimes to the people she meets but only if she's not nervous or wary at meeting them)
- We don't hear it used at any 'incorrect' times
- People other than us have heard it and identified it without prompting (Karen and Joanna)
4. Distinguishable enough from all other sounds, that Rob was able to correctly identify without any visual cues, that Clare had just 'met' someone (aka, the cats walked into the room)
What do you think?
Talk to you soon,
B.

I'd say that qualifies as a first word! Way to go Clare!!
Her nana has been saying this for a month or more now. And of course we all know that she is the smartest baby in the world. Not only does she say it at the appropriate time it is also the tone of her voice that she uses when saying that particular word.
OOPs almost forgot. I still think she is saying dog also when she sees Pugsley. It certainly is a "D" sound when she sees her favourite puppy.
