For holiday baking!!!
I picked up some holiday baking magazines today. Fun, fun, fun! I picked up the Better Homes and Gardens Christmas Cookies, Better Homes and Gardens Holiday Baking, and Canadian Living Holiday Best 2005 (although the Canadian Living magazine isn't posted on their website yet). I read them all and they have some FANTASTIC recipes. Can't wait to start trying them out. I think the BHG Holiday Baking has my favorite ones and will likely be the ones I try first. I think my mum would really like the recipes in the BHG Holiday baking. Mum, you should get this magazine. The Canadian Living magazine has a truffle tart recipe I'm DESPERATE for.
Hmm..I wonder what the copyright rules are in this case? Am I allowed to tell you specifics about the recipes I've read about? the features? I can only assume that the magazine would be mad if I published a recipe on my blog. I can also assume, I think, that they wouldn't like it if I even published their table of contents because they don't publish full contents on their own sites. I'm not sure exactly why though. I mean -- I know they want to make sales but a person could walk into any store and pick up the magazine and read the table of contents. If I tell you about all the great stuff, you might even want to buy it yourself. Hmm..better keep quiet.
You'll just have to settle for going to your local store and fondling the magazine yourself, or coming by my place and perusing my copy, or waiting until Christmas to try the treats I've baked from them!
Talk to you soon,
B.
P.S. -- Rob asked me excitedly today, when he saw my new purchases, if I'd started planning for Christmas dinner yet. The answer to that question is "well, i've started thinking about it" but the fact that he was intersted and also knows me so well, answers the question "why did you marry that guy"

Are you doing Christmas dinner yourself?
Well, not exactly by myself. Last time I did most of the chef-ing and Rob and Cynthia souschef-ed and Rob's mom did all the dishes. Since it's only the five of us (maybe 6 this year if Christian comes) it's not a lot of work. Plus, it's nice for me to get to cook for Rob's family as a way of saying thanks for having me out there.
